The essay: The importance of using and evaluating evidence- based artefacts when caring for an adolescent mother relevant to current Australian nursing practice.

The portfolio: A collection of artefacts between 5 and 10. When undertaking weekly I nquiry
B ased L earning activities throughout the semester students will be collect ing artefacts
related to each scenario. Artefacts may include images or documents (such as images
diagrams articles web-links charts forms test results policies procedures skills activities /
competencies) that relate directly to nursing care for a child/adolescent/family guided by the
learning issues presented in each scenario .
This assessment task is in two (2) parts:
Part 1 : A 1000 word essay evaluating the portfolio related to the adolescent mother
scenario which includes:
x Discussion of how the portfolio represents student learning in relation to the scenario
(Ask yourself: How did these artefacts help me to learn about nursing care for the
adolescent /newborn/family in the scenario?)
x Evaluation of the main value of the portfolio to the students future nursing practice
(Ask yourself: How am I going to use the collected artefacts to guide my future
nursing
practice?).
x Evaluation of evidence within the chosen artefacts. The essay will demonstrate the
ability to critically evaluate the research contained in the artefact portfolio. This will be
undertaken whilst discussing the importance/value of the evidence- bas e for future
nursing practice.
x APA style citation of artefacts being discussed and citation of sources as evidence of
learning in -text and in the reference list.
Students are required to submit the ir evaluation essay through the Turnitin LEO Assessment
One link. Allow at least one day to review Turnitin submissions and possibly re-submit.
Part 2 : A portfolio of artefacts related to the adolescent mother scenario.
The portfolio must be submitted e lectronically in the artefact Assignment One drop-box on
LEO.
