Overview

In chapters 5 and 6 I have really enjoyed reading this chapter I have learned about the cities. Meaning like the urban and the white light and I learned about the other negative factors facing the cities like aging, crime traffic congestion and parking problem. And in chapter 6 I have learned about the economics and the revitalization like the tax benefits and the commercial incentives. And in chapter 6 I also learned about the fighting blight like the taking landlords to court very interesting also. The one-way streets also and the reversible lanes.

Key Concept from Chapter 6

I learned about the one-way streets flow and how this work is that there on way streets was that they would have faster flow due that they could not park on their streets keeping the flow going. Now on their reversible lanes they would have like six lane and four of their lanes would go in the city center and the other lanes would go out. And for their traffic congestion they would get cheaper land farther out of the city so there would leave the highway more useful. And I learn like now or in today time as well making a neighborhood more desirable will attract more people. And also overcoming problems of the cities like the abandoned structures and the high crime that were in the urban neighborhood the government and the private investors would work to revitalize the cities so that they would be more desirable.pg 175,181,180.

Key Concept from Chapter 5

And the central area renaissance is that the cities are being revitalized like the offices and the shop expensive houses. But they still are having economic and social problems not being solve. And the white flight in reverse talk about how the homes in USC area have change being it was white meanly and when the African Americans moved in, they began to move out. And I learned in the gentrification that the housing for the poor and the middle class is begin taken over by the young professional. I learned about tax reform at that it was a disincentive to the redevelopment and that it was not good for the private investment.pg 167,168.

Key Concept from Chapter 5 & 6

I learned about my favorite is the habitat for humanity that they would help the family’s buy rehab the foreclosures home to save on money. And I learned about the slum clearance meaning that replacing of home would not lead to providing the home or replacing the home but to displace the low-income families. I also learned that police involvement as far as putting the police at the communities to do patrol on foot and on the street just naming some help the communities. And I have learned that the severe penalties and diversion programs putting people in jail does not help more than giving them jobs. And learning about the block parents is as simple as putting a card in the window to let the child know it, they are in trouble that they can come there. pg. 167,168
